Richard’s work recreates that state of unconscious drift that condenses everyday sights into outlines of shape and color. Coincidentally, we’re in that state most days. Some call it daydreaming. Some call it staring into space. Richard thinks it’s more constructive than that. It is an important distraction from the world of distractions. It’s our minds telling us to take five. Each image represents a pause.

The effect of his work is calming, contemplative, almost monastic. It flirts with banality but errs on the side of simplicity. As Lao Tzu, the Chinese philosopher, said “If you want to become full, let yourself be empty.”

No, we don’t quite know what that means either. But it sure sounds like something.

He has also published books like ‘Vinyl Will Kill’, the first to document the scene of Designer Toys, and ‘Jeremyville Sessions’, on his collaborations with big companies like Adidas, Microsoft, Converse, Diesel, MTV, as well as with artists like Gary Baseman, Miss Van, Friends with you, Geoff McFetridge, Tim Biskup and hundreds of others.
