Warner Brothers Pictures got dirty. To promote the new thriller Contagion, about an unstoppable virus that’s wiping out humanity, WBP Canada grew two billboards promoting the film out of bacteria. As the days passed, the bacteria grew and spread to reveal appropriately hideous signage for the film.
2 thumbs up for this bacterial bit. 1 – They made a traditionally static media quite dynamic and 2 – the idea behind it is grotesquely sharable, increasing the media value.

HBO's critically acclaimed series Boardwalk Empire took the NYC subway takeover to a whole new level. They replaced a standard MTA train with a prohibition era Low V train. Surprised passengers are greeted with authentic 20's era transport, including rattan seats, active ceiling fans and a light scheme that's a welcome respite from fluorescents.

An Emotional Breakdown – The Good Kind

This experimental visualization measures the overall emotion of a website.

Each day it measures

Guardian's 24 hours in pictures,

but users can enter any URL they'd like to see measured. It's a fascinating way to try and objectively quantify a generally subjective topic. It can also be redeeming. ESPN's website tracked 50% Happy, 25% Angry and 25% Neutral. No one in the images was sad – because there's no crying in baseball.

Berlin based street artist Sweza has posted up iconic boomboxes around the city with QR codes incorporated into the image. Scanning the art lets you turn your smart phone into an old-school cassette tape and you can play music from local musicians. Another example of brilliant, technology-enabled cross-promotion.
As part of its Celebrate Original Minds campaign, Ballantine's links Facebook fans to artists and individuals as they create something original in real time. In part 2 of the series, a man gets a matrix code tattoo that's linked to an animation that can actually carry a lovely tune.
This is a raw idea in its fledgling form but a major indicator as to the direction of TV and user generated content. The premise is complicated ˆ part TV network, part community, part reality game. The president is questionable ˆ dot com millionaire to broke artist and the subject of an award winning documentary. But if brands gets involved as the rules are being written, the potential for product integration, sponsorship and partnership is wide open.

The art of communication lies in finding the most effective way of getting a message understood and absorbed. As marketers, we know that the more complicated the message, the more challenging the communication. Yet this Swedish academic is able clearly illustrate the past 200 years of humanity with charm and simplicity. And he does it in about 4 minutes.

According to Zynga’s EVP of business it equals a “cool new ways to entertain and surprise our players”. Welcome to GagaVille. At her in-game farm, fans get exclusive access to music and unicorns. Hold off on the judgement, intellectuals – she’s also partnered with Words with Friends to create Words with Gaga. Unfortunately, Gaga’s only an 8 point word.

Yet another opportunity for marketers on Facebook — Product Tagging.

If your brand or product has a page, it can now be tagged in photos. Facebook just gave you about 500 million potential print ads, contest participants and brand evangelists. Facebook released this new option quietly. Facebook says you’re welcome.

This evening is The Brooklyn Brothers Gallery’s first foray into the world of Minimalist Abstraction. We’re delighted to welcome Richard Graville as our tour guide.

Richard’s work recreates that state of unconscious drift that condenses everyday sights into outlines of shape and color. Coincidentally, we’re in that state most days. Some call it daydreaming. Some call it staring into space. Richard thinks it’s more constructive than that. It is an important distraction from the world of distractions. It’s our minds telling us to take five. Each image represents a pause.

The effect of his work is calming, contemplative, almost monastic. It flirts with banality but errs on the side of simplicity. As Lao Tzu, the Chinese philosopher, said “If you want to become full, let yourself be empty.”

No, we don’t quite know what that means either. But it sure sounds like something.

Please join us this evening. And kindly RSVP.

Bump is a website and app that attaches contact information to every car in America. You can text a neighbor when they’re blocking your driveway, or you can get rewards points for going through you favorite drive-through.

No matter the brand, Bump is an opportunity. Alcohol brands can scope bar parking lots. Text a congratulatory coupon to the designated drivers, or offer up a cab ride to those with a little less foresight.

Jeremyville is an artist, product designer, animator and human. His work has been featured in galleries and museums around the world. He has also published books like ‘Vinyl Will Kill’, the first to document the scene of Designer Toys, and ‘Jeremyville Sessions’, on his collaborations with big companies like Adidas, Microsoft, Converse, Diesel, MTV, as well as with artists like Gary Baseman, Miss Van, Friends with you, Geoff McFetridge, Tim Biskup and hundreds of others.

Equally as impressive, he has his own line of Jeremyville + Converse shoes.
